Cold sores are small, painful reddish or purple blisters on the lips.  At times, they can even appear inside the mouth, on your face or in your nose.  These are the most common places; however, they can show up on any part of the body including the genital area.  Cold sores are spread by the Hsv virus.  They are contagious and can be spread by kissing.

One way to get rid of cold sores quickly is to catch them as soon as you feel a slight pain on your lip.  As soon as you feel one coming on, take an ice cube and hold it on the spot for a couple of minutes.  This can cause a little pain as it starts to burn, however it will lessen the cold sore or even stop it from coming all the way out.  Even if you still get a cold sore after freezing it, it will not be as big or last as long.

You can also use petroleum jelly since it is a good moisturizing agent it will help prevent your cold sore from cracking or bleeding.  Another method that may work for you is to make a paste out of cornstarch and water and apply it to the cold sore a few times a day.  It is not a good idea to peel the scab off the cold sore as this can damage the new skin underneath.  It is recommended that you let the scab fall off by itself.

Acidophilus and milk can help speed up the healing process.  Try taking an acidophilus capsule three times a day with a glass of milk.  Aloe Vera gel is also effective when rubbed on the cold sores to help in healing.  There are also many good medicated lip balms that are effective to help get rid of cold sores quickly.

Just make sure to use your finger, rub it over the lip balm, and then apply to your lips using your finger.  Then make sure to wash your hands thoroughly.  The reason for doing this is that it will help make sure that you don’t get the cold sore virus on your lip balm so the next time you use it, you’ll wind up with a cold sore again.
