How to Treat and Prevent Razor Burn

Razor burn is a skin irritation that happens after shaving, which makes skin become red, irritated and inflamed.  It is often very painful and can last from just a few hours to a few days.  By using just a few precautions, razor burn can be avoided. Before shaving, it is a good idea to take a shower to soften your skin.  It can also help to exfoliate the skin before shaving to remove dead skin. Make sure that your razor is sharp because using a dull razor can cause skin irritation.

Always use shaving cream or lotion to soften your skin before shaving.  This is important because it will keep your skin moisturized and cause less irritation during shaving.  Shave with the grain of your skin and hair so you will not be scraping too much of your skin.

After you are done shaving, apply aloe Vera gel to the entire surface.  If you already have razor burn, aloe Vera gel will help alleviate the pain and help with healing. Aloe Vera is the natural moisturizer and can be helpful as a treatment of razor burns. Wash your face with cold water and add a few drops of tea tree oil to the water to help get rid of the infection causing germs.

It may be helpful to take a cotton ball, soak it in apple cider vinegar, and pat it around over the entire area.  It can also be helpful to use a potato.  Cut thin slices of potato and apply them to the area’s that need relief.  Some people have also found by mixing petroleum jelly and honey and applying it to the skin is helpful to relieve the discomfort of freezer burn.  Leave it on for 30 minutes and then get in the shower to wash it off.  Follow-up by reapplying aloe Vera gel.  Following these simple tips, can help you to treat and prevent razor burn.
